A Government That Belongs to the People
1. Term Limits for Congress
No one should make a career out of representing the people while losing touch with them. We will fight for constitutional amendments to ensure fresh perspectives and accountability in Washington.
2. Ending Dark Money
Corporations and special interests shouldn't have a louder voice than citizens. Transparency starts with full disclosure of all campaign funding:
- Mandatory real-time reporting of all donations over $200.
- Stricter regulations on PAC and Super PAC influence.
- Ensuring people-powered campaigns are the standard.
3. Ban on Lobbying by Former Members
The 'revolving door' between Congress and K Street must close. Former legislators should be prohibited from lobbying the bodies they once served for at least a decade.
4. Congressional Stock Trading Ban
Public service is a trust, not a business opportunity. Members of Congress and their immediate families should be barred from trading individual stocks while in office.
5. Ranked Choice Voting & Open Primaries
We must empower voters to choose the best candidates without fear of 'wasting' their vote. Alaska's model proves that open dialogue and broad consensus lead to better outcomes for everyone.
6. Independent Redistricting Commissions
Voters should choose their politicians; politicians shouldn't choose their voters. We support non-partisan commissions to end gerrymandering nationwide.
7. Ethics Oversight with Teeth
Rules are only as good as their enforcement. We will establish independent oversight bodies with the power to investigate and penalize ethical violations in branches of government.
8. Direct Citizen Feedback Loops
Communication shouldn't just happen at election time. We will implement:
- Monthly virtual town halls accessible to all Alaskans.
- Transparent tracking of constituent concerns.
- Legislative summaries provided in plain English.
